February 2020

From the Desk of the Principal
I have the privilege of walking around the building and interacting with our students on a daily basis.  This year, more than ever, I check in with students and ask them what they're learning, why they are learning it, and how their learning style plays a role in the learning process.  I am always impressed with how well our students know themselves as learners.  I'm just as impressed with how amazing our staff is in helping students infuse their learning style into the learning process.  The strides we have made with personalized learning have far exceeded my expectations.  This is a testament to how dedicated and talented our staff is and how amazing our students are when it comes to their own learning.  I'll be the first to admit that it hasn't been a smooth road, but tackling an initiative such as this is never easy.  Learning can be messy, but our building has embraced a continuous improvement mindset that consists of mistakes, reflection, and making changes for the better.  As we continue to assist students in learning more about themselves as learners and challenge older models of education while updating them with 21st century models, the more we will continue to grow together.  I am often asked what is the best part of my job.  Other than witnessing the 1,000+ smiling faces from our students and staff everyday, my next favorite part is watching each member of Harter Middle School grow.  I am thankful that I am able to witness this often and it's a privilege to serve as the principal of the Harter Learning Community.

As always, if I can ever be of assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.
