December 2017

From the desk of the principal...
December is here and it's a busy month for students and staff.  Although we are eagerly anticipating winter break, we are also eagerly anticipating a month where students will "show what they know."  Whether it is i-Ready testing, athletic tournaments/events, band/choir concerts, social/emotional learning lessons, or classroom work with our fabulous staff, our students will be able to demonstrate this month how awesome they are as a student, but even more so, as a well-rounded person.

If I don't see you at one of the many events this month, I wish you a relaxing winter break.

Happy holidays!

Proud to be a Knight!

Brian Faulkner, Principal

Progress Reports
2nd Term Progress Reports will be emailed home on Friday, December 1st.

i-Ready Testing
All students will take the second diagnostic assessment in i-Ready for both reading and math during the week of December 4th.  i-Ready, along with other data, helps us strengthen our efforts in meeting the needs of all students, which includes scheduling appropriate courses/classes.

Please help us by reminding your child to bring their headphones for testing.

Family Knight Out
When you eat at one of the restaurants that sponsors our Family Knight Out initiative, a portion of the proceeds is donated to our PTO.  Our PTO is an amazing organization that supports our students in numerous ways.

PTO Happenings
The Harter staff is extremely appreciative and thankful for the dinner provided to us during parent-teacher conferences.  Thank you to the PTO and all of the parents that contributed.

The next PTO meeting is Tuesday, January 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the main office at Harter.

Board of Education Meetings to be Streamed Live
As part of our continued goal to increase community engagement, Kaneland Community Unit District #302 is pleased to announce that we will begin live online streaming of the open portion of all Board of Education meetings. The streaming for all executive sessions will be stopped and restarted when there is possible Board action following the executive session.  Otherwise, the streaming will stop just prior to the executive session. We believe that improving access to the decision-making process will foster a greater connection to our entire community.

A link to the live streaming will be available from www.kaneland.org on meeting dates. Video recordings will be available on the website within 24-48 hours of the meeting's conclusion.
The Board of Education typically meets on the second and last Mondays of the month. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. in Room 325 at Harter Middle School (1601 Esker Drive, Sugar Grove), unless otherwise noted on the website.

Please note that by law all Board of Education meetings are open to the public.  Oftentimes, we recognize students for their achievements.  If you are a parent or guardian who has requested by letter not to have your child’s name or image published, you may decline invitations to these recognitions.
Following is additional information available on the Board of Education webpage (www.kaneland.org/board-of-ed):

AGENDAS - Board of Education meeting agendas are typically made available the Thursday prior to a meeting.
INFORMATION PACKETS - Packets of information for a Board of Education meeting are typically available to the public with the agendas the Thursday prior to the meeting.
MEETING RECORDINGS - Videos of the most recent meetings after the Live Stream has processed.
MINUTES - Minutes from the meeting will be available on the District’s website after being approved by the Board of Education at a future meeting.
OTHER – Agreements, training, contracts, meeting dates, contact form and more.

The Board of Education and the District look forward to this new avenue of communication with our community.

Lost and Found
We have a number of items in our lost and found, which is located on the stage in our cafeteria.  Please ask your child to check the lost and found for any items he/she is missing.  Unclaimed items will be donated.
